Pastel Artist

Biography

An artist since childhood, Colleen grew up in St. Paul, a small town in central Nebraska, named for her great grandfather. After moving west to Colorado, she graduated from the University of Colorado, Boulder, Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. Following several years of working in colored pencil and watercolor, she switched to pastel.

Primarily, using hard and soft pastels, the vibrant colors allow her to create an emotional connection to the variety of subjects she paints, including landscapes, still life, portraits, wildlife, and architecture. The goal is to create an art piece that connects with the viewer through a heightened sense of mood, contrast, and value.

Great art connects the emotion of the artist to the emotion of the viewer.

Colleen's award-winning paintings are exhibited throughout Colorado and hang in public and private collections across the country. She is a Master Pastelist with the Pastel Society of America, a Signature member of the Pastel Society of Colorado and a member of the Boulder Art Association and the Longmont Artist Guild. Her work has appeared in The Artist's Magazine, The Pastel Journal, American Art Collector, The Best of American Pastel Artists, and The Best of Worldwide Artists In Charcoal, Pastel, and Pencil.
